A 59-year-old Thai woman suffering from dementia left her home eight months ago to visit her son who lived near her. She eventually traveled 640 kilometers on foot to, China, before finally returning home.

Relatives of Kaomani Arzau, a member of the Aha tribe, informed the authorities about her disappearance on June 12, 2018. The woman lives in the Chiang Rai area of ​​northern Thailand on the border with Laos, which borders China.

At the end of January, the 59-year-old was located in the Chinese city of Kunming. She had her identity with her and so the Chinese authorities were able to identify her and contact the Thai consulate.

"He explained that he arrived on foot, continued to walk, begging for food on the street," explained Thai police Colonel Aekorn Butchabarbodin.

"I went to see my son (…) and then I kept walking," the 59-year-old explained in a video broadcast by Thai media, which also showed pictures of the woman reuniting with her daughter, crying on her knees in emotion. .

According to her daughter, the 59-year-old lost 20 kilos during her adventure, which ended with her return to Chiang Rai, this time by plane.
