Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said in a statement that "they will gradually clear the region of terrorism", adding that his country is implementing the Mebic agreement step by step, commenting on the entry of the Turkish army into the Syrian city today.
"What did we say about Mebic? We said that the terrorist organization would leave. Did he start to leave? Now we said patrols. "And they started," said Tayyip Erdogan in his campaign speech just a week before the June 24 election.
In the same vein, Prime Minister Binali Gildirim said of Mebic that "he is doing the necessary work there with US forces to clear the elements of terrorism."
Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu said that the Turkish army had started moving there and "will soon clear the YPG (Syrian Kurdish fighters) and the PKK and the necessary steps will be taken".
