Israel: Judicial scandal over sex appointments

Well-known lawyer, promised judicial appointments in exchange for sex

Salos has erupted in recent days in Israel, following allegations that there were judicial appointments in exchange for sex.

Police arrested a well-known lawyer on Wednesday and summoned two other suspects, accusing them of promising judicial appointments in exchange for sex.

So far, two other suspects have been arrested, including a female judge from the center of the country.

Several members of the Judicial Appointments Committee have been called to testify in the case, including Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked and Supreme Court Justice Esther Hayut.

They said they were "convinced that the law enforcement system will complete the investigation and get to the truth", while rejecting allegations of corruption in the judicial appointment system.

Attorney General Shai Nitzan and Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit are also aware of and linked to the investigation, which police said opened two weeks ago.

The top lawyer arrested is accused of interfering in the process of appointing judges in exchange for sexual favors.

The investigation is being conducted by the central prosecutor's office, under the supervision of the state prosecutor, a police spokesman said.

Investigators rushed to the home of the main suspect and later arrested him, while other suspects related to the case were questioned.

"The police today allowed the partial release of details about the case that concerns the judiciary," former Supreme Court Justice Dorit Beinisch told the radio, adding: ».
