Russian researchers have built a XNUMXD model of the ancient city of Palmyra based on earlier videos recorded with a drone.
Based on this model, scientists from the Institute of History of the Russian Academy and the Hermitage Museum will help preserve the monument, which has been severely damaged by the Islamic State.
The jihadists occupied Palmyra in May 2015 and used the ancient theater for executions.
They often published photographs showing the destruction of antiquities, both in Palmyra and in other archeological sites. According to their ideology, they had to destroy the idols of foreign gods.
