She turns 21 years old

Irini Messaropoulou, the model from Mytilene who was arrested in Hong Kong with a quantity of cocaine in 2017, has been in prison for 14 months. This is the second Christmas she spends behind bars in Hong Kong and away from her family, waiting for the crucial trial to take place in March.

The nightmare of Peace, however, continues, since on January 22 the model has a birthday and will turn 21 years old. This implies her transfer from juvenile or juvenile prisons to other prisons, much harder and "much more difficult", as her lawyer, Sakis Kechagioglou, told Star.

Mr. Kechagioglou also gave some information about the trial. He said characteristically: “The trial will take place on March 7 and will last 7 days, before 7 jurors, who will judge whether Irene is innocent or not. I hope we have good news in March. I am convinced of her innocence".

The chronicle of the case

On November 22, 2017, after a formal check at the Hong Kong airport, the then 19-year-old Irini Messaropoulou was arrested, as 2,6 kilos of cocaine worth 300.000 euros were found in her backpack. Since then, she has been imprisoned in a penitentiary, while her parents have made countless efforts to repatriate her, even going on a lawsuit against her, in order to be extradited to Greece.

Irene still claims that she was involved in the drug case and that she is innocent. "I was taken advantage of, I did not know about drugs", She has stated, while she is said to have pointed out those who implicated her, a prominent Romanian who she met in Mytilene. Now, Irene and her parents are pinning their hopes on China's Supreme Court.
