The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee announced today that it has invited the CEOs of Internet giants Facebook Inc, Alphabet Inc and Twitter Inc to testify at an April 10 hearing on user data protection.
Senator Charles Grassley, chairman of the committee, said he called on Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg to "testify during the hearing about Facebook's past and future policies to protect and monitor consumers' personal data."
Facebook has come under pressure from advertisers as the social networking site faces scrutiny from the government following allegations that a consulting firm had access to the personal data of 50 million Facebook users.
A Facebook spokesperson confirmed that the company has received the call and is examining it.
