22 sailors, nine of them Greeks, have been stranded on the Angelic Power ship in China for 15 months.
According to the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Giannis Plakiotakis, speaking in the First Program, the ship has been at berth in China since December 11, the subject of a dispute between the charterer and the management company, there is an arrest warrant for this ship. As he said, many sailors are on the ship for up to 17 months, so the situation is marginal, while some of them need immediate medical attention.
The minister noted that political intervention would be made by his counterparts in China to ensure that the sailors could be repatriated.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the ministry has already carried out more than 7.000 repatriations of Greek sailors from various parts of the world. However, as the minister underlined, in some cases repatriations are not possible, with the result that many crews have remained on board for more than a year.
According to the President of PENEN, Antonis Dalakogiorgos, the problem is located not only in the management companies but also in the banks, while it is important that the medication of some of the sailors who have health problems has ended, facing a serious problem.
