Three key issues need to be resolved in 64 days so that the early elections announced by the Turkish President can take place smoothly. According to Hurriyet, the provisions of the reforms approved through a referendum in April 2017, should now be integrated into the election process.

Among other things, the reforms include a law on forming alliances in elections. The ruling AKP and Bahceli's Nationalist Movement MHP have already announced they will ally in the run-up to the elections. All the political parties that will run in the elections have less than two months to reach their candidates, whether it concerns the country's Presidency or the parliamentary seats.

In addition, parliament will have to pass the amending laws needed to hold early elections to bring them into line with the executive branch. The amending laws will also specify what an independent candidate must do in order to run in the presidential election.

According to the regulations promoted by the AKP, you will not allow any candidate for the Presidency to run in the parliamentary elections, as the two electoral processes will take place together. Independent candidates will also have to collect 100.000 signatures which will have to be verified by some mechanism.

Political parties that currently have at least 20 seats in parliament will be able to nominate a candidate at the parliamentary group level. Parties that completed 5% of the electorate in the last parliamentary elections, or alliances that garner 5% based on their percentages, will then also have the option of having their own candidate.
