Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has announced early parliamentary and presidential elections for June 24. It was preceded by a meeting of the Turkish President with Mr. Bahceli and the meeting, for 2,5 hours, of Mr. Erdogan with the competent organs of his party.

The Turkish President seems to want to anticipate some events, with the main reasons being the following:

The two men talked for about half an hour at the presidential palace in Ankara, according to a presidential source.

In his statements, the President of Turkey explained this move, citing the extraordinary developments in Syria and the economic situation.

The Turkish daily Hurriyet presented the announcement of the early elections, stressing that the dates have been finalized.

HOURIYET

Bahceli, the chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), demanded yesterday, Tuesday, the acceleration of the elections, which will normally be held on November 3, 2019, for August 26 this year. The 70-year-old veteran politician, who used to harshly criticize Erdogan, is now one of his main allies.

More in a while…
