The laying ceremony of the foundation stone of the new power plant of PEC Ltd took place today, Friday, February 15, at the construction site of the station in the area of Vasilikos.
The laying of the foundation stone was done by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiadis, while the consecration at the ceremony was done by the Archbishop of Cyprus, Chrysostomos.
In his greeting at the laying ceremony of the foundation stone of the power plant in Vasilikos, the President of the Republic, Nikos Anastasiadis, noted that the project has strategic value for our country, as it has two special features that we must highlight. "First of all, it is a project with a reform character, which will contribute in a very few years with its operation in 2021, to change the map of electricity supply in our country. It is also a project which, with its implementation, will offer so much in the growth of its economy, country but will also contribute to the significant reduction of the price of electricity in the whole spectrum of the economy, whether it concerns industry, handicrafts, tourism or, of course, household consumption ", he noted.
In his greeting, the President of the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority noted that this is a private initiative, which is in full harmony with the goals of CERA, so that we move from the current monopoly situation, to a state of full competition in the electricity sector.
The ceremony was attended by political and state officials, ambassadors, ministers, directors and executives from the largest companies in Cyprus.
The power of the production unit will reach 230 MW, while the production of electricity will reach 25% based on the current needs of Cyprus.
