  1. People with diabetes as well as people with severe obesity have been included by the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Health in the groups of patients at high risk for serious disease from COVID-19 and respectively in the planning of the Ministry for their vaccination as a priority, together with the other groups that have been determined. Specifically:
  2. Based on scientific criteria, people with Diabetes have been categorized for priority reasons regarding their vaccination schedule into:
  • Priority Group A.: People with type I diabetes and people with type II diabetes who take insulin.
  • Priority Group B.: People with Diabetes and macrovascular and / or microvascular complications (Coronary Artery Disease, Peripheral Angiopathy, Chronic Kidney Disease, Stroke, Carotid Disease, Retinal Disease).
  • Priority Group C: People with Diabetes - others.

In the first phase, the vaccination of the people who meet them will proceed criteria of Priority Groups A and B.. In the next phase, around the middle of April 2021, and given that there is the expected flow of vaccines, the vaccination of people with Diabetes who belong to Priority Group C will proceed.

3. On the basis of scientific criteria have been categorized for reasons of priority, in terms of planning for their vaccination, people with Severe Obesity. Specific individuals with BMI> 40, or BMI> = 35 and metabolic syndrome.

The above people with Diabetes (Priority Group A and B) and people with Severe Obesity (people with BMI> 40, or BMI> = 35 and metabolic syndrome), regardless of age, will be able, through the Vaccination Portal, to arrange an appointment for vaccination at the Vaccination Centers that operate nationwide from Monday, March 29, 2021, at 8 p.m.. The Portal will remain open for specific groups until Thursday, April 1, at 7 p.m.. The total number of people in the patient groups referred to in points 2 and 3, according to the OAY Software, amounts to 18,973 people.

The Vaccination Portal will operate in the usual way and those interested will be informed of the type of vaccine available at each Vaccination Center. They will be available in total 19,246 appointments for vaccination. Citizens who fall into the above categories are encouraged to proceed with the scheduling of their appointment, without delay, with the licensed vaccines.

Note that:

(a) as in the case of the age criterion, the Vaccination Portal will confirm the individuals who meet the criteria, based on the data kept in the GESS Software. This information must be recorded by their treating physicians in their medical record, and no relevant medical certificate is required.

(b) the persons belonging to the specific groups will be informed by text message (SMS) about the possibility of arranging their appointment.

In the case of patients who are not registered or are not beneficiaries of GESS, they will be given priority for vaccination, based on the above criteria, after confirmation of their treating physician and sending a relevant e-mail to the e-mail address emvoliasmos.eidikes@moh.gov.cy, expressing the patient's interest in vaccination and quoting the Identity Number / Identification Document Number, the patient's contact phone number and the Priority Group for Diabetes, to which he belongs, or that he is a person with Severe Obesity.
