All the new measures that will apply in Cyprus were announced after the meeting of the Council of Ministers by the Minister of Health Michalis Hadjipandelas.

Statement of the Minister of Health Mr. Michalis Hadjipandelas on the decisions of the Council of Ministers

At today's meeting of the Council of Ministers, I informed the President of the Republic and my fellow Ministers about the epidemiological data as they are being formed in recent days. In particular, from the analysis of the data of the case tracking, a series of cases are identified that arise from places of synchronization and after social events. There are also large chains of cases with mainly young people with intense social activity.

At the same time, it has been found that more than 90% of cases Covid either has not completed its vaccination schedule or has no history of vaccination, raising concerns about virus mutations and spread in the community. Equally worrying is the fact that the majority of hospitalized patients are unvaccinated, with the result that when they become ill they develop severe symptoms and need inpatient care.

In accordance with the above, and with the aim of minimizing the possibility of transmission of the virus in the places of color and social events and the prevention of the spread, the Council of Ministers decided today the following:

  1. From 9 to 31 July, the maximum number of people indoors is set at 250 people with the necessary presentation SafePass or 350 people provided that all persons are vaccinated with at least 1η dose and a period of 3 weeks has elapsed or they have become ill with Covid the last six months. It is understood that in each case the sanitary protocol that applies to each facility / sector applies.
  2. From 9 to 31 July, the maximum number of people outdoors is set at 350 people with the necessary presentation SafePass or 500 people provided that all persons are vaccinated with at least 1η dose and a period of 3 weeks has elapsed or they have become ill with Covid the last six months. It is understood that in each case the sanitary protocol that applies to each facility / sector applies.
  3. Persons aged 12-15 years who cannot be vaccinated at this stage and persons aged 16 years and over who cannot be vaccinated due to a serious medical problem upon presentation of the necessary medical certificate, they are exempted and may present a certificate of negative result from a PCR examination or a rapid antigen detection test with a validity of 72 hours.
  4. The places where the above will apply are the catering establishments, the event or reception areas, the nightclubs, the entertainment centers, the music and dance venues, the bars, the discotheques, the theaters, the amphitheaters, the theaters, the cinemas , places of worship and stadiums, excluding soccer fields.
  5. Businesses / establishments that will choose to host only citizens who have been vaccinated or have been ill for the last 6 months, should take care to list in a prominent place in the company / premises, as well as to inform the citizens, about their decision.
  6. Responsibility for compliance with its implementation SafePass and other sanitary measures are carried out by the owner or manager of the business and the premises. It is emphasized that the Police and the authorized officials of the Services / Departments will continue to be responsible for the control and supervision of the measures.

In addition, it is recalled that, in accordance with the decisions of 2 July, the following applies:

  • Granting a holiday allowance to vaccinated people from July 15 to August 31, details of which have already been given by the Ministry of Tourism.
  • Granting a five-day honorary leave to those national guards who were vaccinated or will be vaccinated up to 31η August 2021. The same will apply to the case of a parent / legal guardian of a minor child, provided that the parent / legal guardian accompanies his / her minor child for vaccination and that a copy of the child's Vaccination Card is submitted for confirmation.

That is, if they are not vaccinated with at least 1η or do not have a certificate of recovery and will travel by PCR test from Orange and Red Category countries, they should have a negative result from PCR from their country of origin with a validity of 72 hours. The decision excludes minors aged 12-15 years and persons 16 years and older with serious health problems who are not entitled to be vaccinated.

In addition, I would like to express my gratitude to the private companies and organizations under Public Law that in the framework of their Corporate Social Responsibility will provide incentives to young people to promote vaccination. More information will be announced by the Citizen's Commissioner in the coming days.

Ladies and gentlemen,

The burden of epidemiological indicators requires careful observance of personal protection measures and health protocols. We need to remember in any case that the virus is still among us and only with responsibility and discipline will we prevent its spread, for the benefit of society as a whole.

By the way, I call on our fellow citizens who have not yet been vaccinated to do so as soon as possible, protecting themselves and helping to build immunity in the community that will allow us all to return to normal functioning safely.
