The proposal of the Directorate of the State Health Services (OKYPY) is submitted within the day before the Board of Directors of the Organization, for extension of the opening hours of the public hospitals and in the afternoons, which in case of approval will be given the green light to the Directorate. to proceed with the necessary consultation with the Trade Unions of all employees.

Speaking to KYPE, OKYPY spokesman Charalambos Charilaou said that in case the proposal is approved today, then the consultation with the workers' unions will begin immediately, while he added that the Organization's effort is to have as much as possible agreement soon, so that the evening work operation can start immediately.

Answering a question whether there is a timetable for the implementation of the proposal, Mr. Charilaou said that it will definitely be implemented before the end of the year.

According to the details of the proposal of OKYPY, the program will be divided into two parts and specifically one will concern the outpatient clinics of specialties, where daily there will be specific specialties to operate in the afternoons, in order to serve people, while the other part will concerns surgeries and specialties that present large waiting lists.

Income-based compensation formula

In statements to KYPE, the spokesman of OKYPY, Charalambos Charilaou, said that the proposal provides that doctors, who will work in the afternoon and beyond the hours of the Public Service, who work until today, will receive an additional amount for their afternoon work, in addition to the salary they already receive.

Asked about this, Mr. Charilaou said that for the surgeries it is foreseen to apply a compensation formula, based on the additional income that the Health Insurance Organization will have from these surgeries.

"If we want a modern organization we have to make cuts"

Asked to comment on the reactions on the part of Government Doctors, Mr. Charilaou said that "we all recognize the need to extend the working hours of OKYPY hospitals, which will have a positive effect on patients."

"That is," he added, "we will better serve our patients, so that patients do not have to take time off work to lose their pay to come to the outpatient clinics to be seen by a doctor."

He added that "since the creation of a Public Law Organization and we all want this Organization to be modern, flexible, productive and financially autonomous, it must make such cuts that at the end of the day it better serves its patients and on the other to operate equally in a competitive environment ".

He noted that OKYPY can not have a very expensive equipment, seven thousand staff and at 15:00 to close hospitals and operate only the Emergency Departments (TAEP).

"In this context, the Central Administration of the Organization submitted a proposal to the Board of OKYPY to give it approval to start consulting with all involved unions, in order to make an afternoon work program," he added.

In addition, he stressed that "if we want a modern, flexible, competitive, competitively autonomous organization, we must make cuts", to note that OKYPY must operate, as do other health care providers in order to have equal competition.

"Otherwise," he said, "we will have a problem."
