European elections: Polling station for Turkish Cypriots in Deryneia

Fifty will be the special polling stations that will be set up in the European elections for the Turkish Cypriots who will choose to exercise their right to vote. According to the head of the Central Election Service, Dimitris Dimitriou, special polling stations will be set up from Pyrgos to Deryneia, in places that will be located near the roadblocks, in order to reduce to a minimum any inconvenience for the Turkish Cypriots who will pass to free areas to vote.

These fifty polling stations will be set up mainly in schools, while the Town Planning building near Ledra Palace, in Nicosia, will also be utilized. The largest number of polling stations will be set up in Nicosia, where the large mass of voters is expected, from the roadblocks of Agios Dometios, Ledra Palace and Ledra Street.

According to Mr. Dimitriou, those who will cross the roadblock on Ledras Street will use polling stations in the school of Faneromeni, those who will cross the roadblock of Ledras Palace will go to the headquarters of Urban Planning, while polling stations will be set up in Astromeritis , to cover the area of ​​Morphou. We will also have polling stations in Deryneia for the province of Famagusta and other nearby areas. Regarding those who will choose to cross the Lefkas-Apliki roadblock, the nearest polling station will be located in Flasou, where two specific centers will be set up. There will also be a polling station in Pyrgos. Turkish Cypriots who choose to vote will have to take care of their transportation to and from the polling stations. In order to be able to exercise their right to vote, they must have with them the identity of the Republic of Cyprus. They will also submit a responsible statement for their address and then proceed and vote normally.

Mr. Dimitriou points out that the ministry understands the concern that the Turkish Cypriots may have in relation to the increased attendance and control procedures, which is why the ministry took measures so that there are no problems from the authorities. of the Republic of Cyprus. As he pointed out, they have already provided for the further staffing of the checkpoints on the day of the elections, both in Ledra Palace and in Ledras Street and in the roadblock of Deryneia, where a large number of voters is expected. Checkpoints will be strengthened at the equipment level, such as computers and systems, to minimize any inconvenience.

A final announcement on all the details will be made on May 17th, when the distribution of voters in the polling stations will be announced, however for the Turkish Cypriots there may be a separate announcement earlier in May.
