The challenges with tourism do not stop, but continue

protaras3 Actions, Ministry of Tourism

We are going through a year full of uncertainties about Cypriot tourism. Hoteliers and tour operators are acknowledging the drop in bookings for the summer months (which is our peak season), hoping to attract last-minute tourists to keep up with last year's levels.

The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Savvas Perdios, repeatedly emphasizes in his statements the difficulties and challenges that we will face in 2020 as well. In fact, he estimates that it is expected to be the next difficult year for tourism, as Brexit was extended. "This is the reason why, as a State Department, we are working very hard to open new markets, attract new forms of tourism and new ages, in order to expand both our product and our risk as a country," the Undersecretary said.

Initially, an effort will be made to spread our country more in the Czech Republic, Poland, Ukraine. In addition, markets such as Germany, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria and Belgium will be targeted. In these countries, the State Department will focus on promoting our country to carry out activities that will offer them life experiences.

At the same time, in Britain, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, tourists over the age of 65 will be targeted with financial comfort for quality retirement and the possibility to stay abroad for several weeks in the winter.

At the fourth level, the Ministry of Tourism will promote Cyprus for short stays in markets within 90 minutes by air from our country (Israel, Egypt, Lebanon, Greece, United Arab Emirates and Jordan).

Already, the Ministry of Tourism has announced an offer of € 2 million with the aim of Cyprus acquiring a new tourist brand name in 2020. The aim of the new branding of our country is to highlight our special features and our comparative advantages (Unique selling points) in the Berlin exhibition in 2020.
According to the tender documents, the scope of application of the contract is to designate an economic operator who will provide services related to the creation of a competitive brand for Cyprus and its application in all marketing activities of the Ministry of Tourism.

Specifically, the contractor will be responsible for the creation and preparation of all necessary creative materials for the implementation of the new brand, as well as the design and production of creative material for all advertising and commercial activities of the Contracting Authority.

Finally, the Undersecretary requested the assistance of all ministries. In order to enrich the planning, the ministries will submit their views on the finalization of the National Plan and on the final formulation of the ways of practical implementation of the actions included in it.
