Satisfied with the measures-Increases are inevitable

The President of the Cyprus Consumers' Association, Marios Drousiotis, expresses satisfaction with the recent support measures announced by the Minister of Finance, Konstantinos Petridis, on Friday, May 27th.

Speaking on the show Mesimeri kai Kati, Mr. Drousiotis said that "we are satisfied with the measures, but they will be needed additionally from September 1, as no one guarantees that we will avoid new increases".

There will be a "need to renew them" and another citizen support package will have to be added, he said.

The measures are targeted, however there are also horizontal ones such as those that concern the reduction of the consumption tax on motor fuels, the reduction of the VAT on electricity and the increase of the pensions, clarified Mr. Drousiotis.

Asked about the most important measure, he answered the measure of reducing the fuel consumption tax and the measure of reducing the electricity VAT from 19% to 9%, which will have a "greater impact on the household budget".

"Consumers have been cutting for two years now because of the pandemic. We have reached the bottom. "Fuel savings will come out of necessity," he concluded.
