credit card Consumer Association, Card Charges

The Cyprus Consumers' Association urges consumers "not to accept additional charges for the payment of goods or services using credit or debit cards, in addition to the price indicated on the product or the invoice", noting that "the charges are small, but illegal, as long as there is no clear indication of this additional charge ".

In a statement, the Cyprus Consumers' Association states that "if the seller decides to impose an additional charge due to payment by card, he must have a relevant indication posted on a prominent part of his store that an additional amount and its exact amount will be charged, on cases where payment is made using a credit or debit card ".

He adds that "the seller is obliged, as long as he accepts payment by card, to charge the exact price of the products or services he provides and can not charge an additional amount, no matter how small, on the grounds that the payment was made by credit or debit card ".

In case there is no appropriate and clear indication in the store that consumers can easily be informed about this additional charge, then it should be reported to the Cyprus Consumer Association, the announcement concludes.
