Vertical increase in tourist arrivals in April

A large increase was recorded in tourist arrivals in April 2022 compared to last year. Arrivals in April this year amounted to 289.335 compared to 38.226 in April 2021.

According to the Statistical Service, for the period January - April 2022, tourist arrivals amounted to 534.040 compared to 55.973 in the corresponding period of 2021, with 246.556 in the period January - April 2020, as well as 686.783 arrivals in the period January - April 2019.

Arrivals from the United Kingdom were the main source of tourism for April 2022, accounting for 40,1% (116.074) of total arrivals, arrivals from Germany 8,3% (23.966), arrivals from Israel in 7,7% (22.402), arrivals from Greece 6,0% (17.347) and arrivals from Poland 5,2% (15.137).

The purpose of travel in April 2022 was for a percentage of 80,2% of tourists the holidays, for 14,6% the visit to friends or relatives and for a percentage of 5,2% business. Respectively, for April 2021, 61,7% visited Cyprus for holidays, 21,3% for visiting friends or relatives and 16,9% for business reasons.
