CYPRUS: Six deaths announced by the Ministry of Health - Less than 2 thousand cases

270 patients COVID-19 of which 92 are in serious condition. 71,38% of patients do not have a history of vaccination

The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 16 2022:

- 6 people died from the disease COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 681.

- 270 patients COVID-19 of which 92 are in serious condition. 71,38% of patients do not have a history of vaccination.

- 17 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized in intubated condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

- A total of 95,005 disease detection tests have been performed by the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid detection method (antigen rapid test).

- 1,971 (positivity rate: 2,07%) new cases of the disease COVID-19 detected by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test (antigen rapid test), raising the total number of cases in 225,738.

The current results are detailed.

A. Deaths from the disease COVID-19:

The 6 people who died with the ultimate cause of death being attributed to the disease COVID-19, relate to:

- A woman, 90 years old, who ended up on January 16 at the Limassol General Hospital.

- An 82-year-old man who died on January 16 at the Limassol General Hospital.

- Woman, 82 years old, who ended up on January 16 at the General Hospital of Famagusta

- An 87-year-old man who died on January 16 at the Nicosia General Hospital.

- A 87-year-old woman who died on January 16 at the Nicosia General Hospital.

- A woman, aged 80, who ended up on January 16 in the Intensive Care Unit of the General Hospital of Nicosia.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the ultimate cause of the disease COVID-19 amounts to 681, of which:

427 men (62,7%), and

- 254 women (37,3%).

The average age of those who die from the disease is 76 years.

B. Patients:

In total, 270 patients of the disease are treated in the hospitals of OKYPY COVID-19, of which 92 in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 92 patients in serious condition, 31 are intubated, 6 are admitted to an intravenous intensive care unit and 55 to an intensive care unit.

C. Positive incidents Covid-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 95,005 diagnoses made, 5,589 were made by molecular method (PCR) and 89,416 by the method of antigen rapid test, 1,971 cases of the disease were identified. COVID-19, which emerged as follows:

  • 36 cases from 550 samples taken through the process of tracking contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 54 cases of 2,806 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 181 cases from 1,833 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 4 cases from 163 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 763 cases from 37,217 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 927 cases from 52,199 samples examined by the method of antigen rapid test through the program of the Ministry of Health.
  • The cases from 6 samples received within the program of referrals by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
