Schools across Cyprus will remain closed from this morning until tomorrow, as Primary, Secondary and Technical Education teachers go on a 48-hour strike.

The teachers are protesting, as they report, for the decisions "that in their absence and in their absence", as they report, the Government took on July 4, 2018.

At a press conference given yesterday afternoon by POED, OELMEK and 0LTEK, the leaders of the three organizations stated that today, Tuesday, they will present a memorandum with their positions to the Speaker of the Parliament and on Wednesday the memorandum will be delivered to political leaders or representatives. In view of the absence of the Speaker of Parliament, who is paying a visit to Hungary, the memorandum may be received by the Speaker of the House.

The President of POED, Filios Fylaktou, stated yesterday that "unfortunately the last measure of the strike, which the educational organizations were forced to take and implement, is the fault of the government", adding that the fight is for the quality of the public school and not for salary increases and reductions in teaching time.

The President of OELMEK, Giannos Socratous, said that the teachers of Mesi are going on a 48-hour strike to protest "for decisions that were taken suddenly and without dialogue, and decisions that not only do not solve any problem of the public school but cause more".

He added that the Central Boards of Directors of POED, OELMEK and OLTEK will meet on Thursday.

In addition, the Ministry of Education and Culture informed the parents yesterday that, in view of the teachers' strike, they will not be able to offer, during the strike, security and protection inside the school premises.
