The Statistical Service announces that the final data on the foreign trade of Cyprus for April 2022 and the preliminary data for May 2022 are available.

FOREIGN TRADE STATISTICS, APRIL 2022

The main developments in Cyprus' foreign trade for April 2022 were:

(a) The total imports of goods (from EU Member States and third countries) was €843,1m in April 2022 compared to €694,8m in April 2021, an increase of 21,3%.

(b) The exports of domestically produced products, including ship and aircraft supplies, for April 2022 was €136,2m compared to €146,5m in April 2021, recording a decrease of 7,0%. The value of exports of industrial products for April 2022 amounted to €120,1 million compared to €135,5 million in April 2021, while the value of export of agricultural products for April 2022 it amounted to €13,0 million compared to €9,7 million in April 2021.

(c) The exports of foreign products, including ship and aircraft supplies, for April 2022 was €147,1m compared to €95,6m in April 2021, an increase of 53,9%.

The data are included in the monthly electronic report "Statistics of Intra-EU Trade and Trade with Third Countries (Summary Data)" for the month of April 2022, which is available free of charge on the web portal of the Statistical Service, in the Publications section, under the Foreign Trade statistical sub-heading.

FOREIGN TRADE STATISTICS, MAY 2022

Based on preliminary data, the main developments in Cyprus' foreign trade for May 2022 are summarized as follows:

(a) Oi total imports of goods was €1.155,0m compared to €668,1m in May 2021, recording an increase of 72,9%. Imports from other EU Member States in May 2022 were €678,4m and from third countries €476,6m compared to €483,6m and €184,5m respectively in May 2021. imports in May 2022 include the transfer of economic property of mobile transport equipment (ships and aircraft), with a total value of €196,8 million compared to €77,6 million in May 2021.

(b) The total exports of goods in May 2022 was €418,0m compared to €227,3m in May 2021, an increase of 83,9%. Exports to other EU Member States in May 2022 were €103,6m and to third countries €314,4m, compared to €70,9m and €156,4m respectively in May 2021. Exports in May 2022 include the transfer of economic property of mobile transport equipment (vessels), totaling €95,1m compared to €21,0m in May 2021.

(c) The total importsgoods (from EU Member States and from third countries) for the period January – May 2022 was €4.475,9 million compared to €3.294,2 million for the period January – May 2021, an increase of 35,9%. The total exports goods (to EU Member States and third countries) for the period January – May 2022 was €1.508,3 million compared to €1.028,4 million for the period January – May 2021, an increase of 46,7%. The trade deficit was €2.967,6 million for the period January – May 2022 compared to €2.265,8 million in the corresponding period of 2021.
