The Consumer Protection Service (CSP) of the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, as the competent authority in Cyprus for the operation and management of the European Rapid Information Exchange System for Dangerous Products that are not foodstuffs, informs consumers that in the week starting on 18/ 12/23 (RAPEX – Report 51) 104 products presenting a health and safety risk have been notified to the System. These products were detected on the markets of various member states of the European Union and subsequently notified to the RAPEX Safety Gate System.

Consumers can be informed about dangerous products on the YPK website.

The 104 products were distributed for market control purposes as follows:

Eleven (11) in the Consumer Protection Service.
Thirty-five (35) in the Pharmaceutical Services Department.
Twenty (20) in the Labor Inspection Department.
Eighteen (18) in the Department of Environment.
Eleven (11) in the Road Transport Department.
Nine (9) in the Electromechanical Services Department.
The products related to the Consumer Protection Service as well as the corresponding inherent risks are described in the table below here.

Please note that products with serial numbers 1 to 9 have been evaluated by the European Commission as products of serious risk, while products with numbers 10 and 11 have been evaluated by the European Commission as products of lower risk.

RECOMMENDATIONS - WARNINGS

The Consumer Protection Service invites importers, distributors, sellers who may have such products to immediately stop their availability and notify the Service.

The Consumer Protection Service also calls on consumers in case they own the above products to stop using them and return them to the seller, i.e. to the store from which they were purchased, and at the same time to inform him about it.

It is noted that according to the Consumer Protection Law of 2021, in case of purchasing an unsafe product, the consumer is entitled to a replacement of the product, so that the product is in accordance with the terms of the sales contract. If this is not possible then the consumer has the right to withdraw, i.e. to return the product to the seller and receive back the full amount paid. It is reminded that the above rights are valid for a period of 2 years from the initial delivery of the product to the consumer and that the final seller always has the sole responsibility towards the consumer.

In the event that the seller refuses to respond to the above rights of the consumer, the consumer is invited to submit his complaint in writing through the website of the Consumer Protection Service.
