The relations of Cyprus with the USA today are at the highest level than ever before, said the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, addressing the Gala Dinner organized by AHEPA Cyprus in memory of Fotos Fotiadis on Thursday evening, at the Presidential Palace, in Nicosia.

Initially, President Christodoulidis stated that "AHEPA has over time demonstrated an essential, very valuable project and a strong, practical and leading participation in all the struggles of Cyprus and in general the struggles of Hellenism, abroad and especially in the United States of America" .

Subsequently, he noted that he knows "from personal experience" the contribution of AHEPA to the effort for enlightenment in relation to the Cyprus issue, to the struggles for the issue of missing persons, to the promotion of the geostrategic role of the Republic of Cyprus in the Eastern Mediterranean and the wider Middle East, in dealing with the multiple challenges that Cyprus is asked to face from time to time, as well as in strengthening the relations of Cyprus with the United States which thanks to the efforts of AHEPA, as he said, "today are at the highest level than ever before".

At the same time, he emphasized, "of decisive importance for us is the contribution of AHEPA in our effort to define and implement a National Strategy for our Diaspora, contributing even more to the promotion of our common goals, our common pursuits in foreign decision-making centers" . The action of AHEPA in recent years, beyond the United States, in countries such as Germany, Belgium and other European countries "is of particular importance to us", he underlined.

"An important stage for the work and action of AHEPA is the organization of the organization's annual international Supreme Conference", pointed out the President of the Republic, adding that the conference will be hosted in Larnaca. "More than three thousand delegates are expected to come and certainly the Republic of Cyprus, as we have already agreed, will contribute to the successful organization of this council", he added.

Furthermore, President Christodoulidis stated that the decision to organize the conference in 2024 in Cyprus also has a strong symbolic character, since it is the third conference outside the USA and will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. "It is therefore an opportunity not only to condemn the illegal Turkish invasion and occupation, but also an opportunity to reiterate our belief in the need to end the occupation and resolve the Cyprus issue on the basis of the agreed framework and on the basis of the principles and values ​​of the European Union ", write down.

Subsequently, he said that the event at the Presidential Palace is dedicated to the memory of Fotos Fotiadis and all net proceeds will be allocated to the "ELPIDA" foundation for children with cancer and leukemia and to the "Ray of Life" foundation for children with special needs. In addition, he congratulated ΑHEPA for its initiative and assured that both he personally, as well as the Government, will always be on ΑHEPA's side, supporting essentially and practically such actions.

Referring to Fotos Fotiadis, the President of the Republic spoke of a man who with his course left an indelible mark on Cypriot business and not only that, he was among the pioneers in the business and economic development of Cyprus, especially after the difficult years of the Turkish invasion, and contributed decisively to the development and evolution of the Cypriot economy.

In addition, he characterized Fotos Fotiadis as a "champion of the cultural cultivation of man", adding that his contribution in the field of letters and the arts is well-known and significant. The organization of the Carlsberg Festival, the establishment of the "Fotos Fotiadis" Foundation and the Cyprus Museum of Natural History, were some of his emblematic actions in Cypriot society, he pointed out.

Finally, the President of the Republic referred to the struggle of Fotos Fotiadis to promote the rights of the Cypriot people, his efforts to enlighten and promote our national problem, after he was a member of the first committee to inform the international public about the consequences of Turkish invasion and the interest of the occupation of Cyprus after 1974.
