Nearly 5,3 million Ukrainians have fled the country due to the war in Ukraine, the UN said.
He also warned that another 3 million refugees are expected to follow by the end of the year.
At the same time, many Ukrainian refugees have returned to their country. The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said between February 28 and April 25, Ukrainian border guards had registered 1.185.500 Ukrainians returning to the country.
However, the UNHCR stressed that "this number reflects cross-border movements, which may be pending and do not necessarily indicate returns, as the situation throughout Ukraine remains extremely volatile and unpredictable."
