Dr. Giannaki addressed the outgoing Minister of Health.

"Through the implementation of a series of reforms and actions we have radically and substantially changed the Health sector in Cyprus for the benefit of the Cypriot citizen. I want to admit that it was a beautiful trip, uphill, difficult, but it was worth it ", said Mr. Ioannou.

A major reform, he noted, was the implementation of the General Health System, "a vision of decades which despite the war it has accepted and continues to accept, despite the fact that many expected that legislation would never start and remain on the shelves, despite the "The fact that they have been in danger of financial collapse for the past two years is largely in line with its core mission, which is to provide all beneficiaries with equal and universal access to health services." GESS, he stated characteristically, is a work of inspiration, a work that touches all the citizens of the Republic of Cyprus and is the heritage for our children.

In relation to the health crisis of the coronavirus, Mr. Ioannou characterized the decisions taken as difficult and harsh, which restricted individual freedoms, social and economic activities. "However, all our actions were aimed at protecting Public Health and saving lives. Despite the mistakes made along the way, we are proud as the Ministry of Health because we managed to offer excellent medical care to those who fell ill, to have the 2ο lower mortality rate across Europe, four times lower than the average. At the same time, we have the fewest lockdown days from most EU countries and finally to implement one of the fastest vaccination programs in all of Europe, shielding the population of Cyprus in time and especially the vulnerable groups ", he pointed out.

So you have in front of you a real challenge to get away from the clutter, finding innovative, imaginative, but at the same time human solutions. "With a highly developed sense of offering to our fellow human beings, I will seek to be better informed about issues in the field of Health. I sympathize with all the patients and I will try to solve their daily problems. I sympathize and will accompany all health scientists, doctors, nurses, caregivers who fight daily against the visible enemy, the pandemic, at personal cost and with anguish to offer the best possible to their fellow man.
