A total of 14.480 applications for registration in the electoral list for the parliamentary elections of May 2021, were submitted by Wednesday afternoon.

As stated in KYPE, the Head of the Election Service Menelaos Vassilios, of these 12.064 concern applications for new registrations in the electoral list. This number, he added, is approximately 2000 increased compared to the corresponding period of 2016, when there were 10.079 applications for registration.

This number is expected, he said, to increase further by the end of the day, as those interested can apply for registration in the electoral roll for the May elections, until 17.00 today. At the same time, Mr. Vassiliou stated that it was already an increase of the number of the last quarter that ended on January 2, with 2.314 applications for first registration compared to 1.375 in 2016.

Mr. Vassiliou stated that the Election Service sent about 32.000 letters to young people aged 18-25 who had the information.

At the same time, he stated that based on the design of the service, polling stations will operate in Greece and the United Kingdom, depending on the interest that will exist. Specifically, polling stations are planned to operate in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, London and Manchester, provided that the minimum number provided by law will be submitted, which is 30 voters per constituency. This will be clarified on April 23, after the expression of interest was extended due to the conditions prevailing with the pandemic. So far there are 1.288 statements for voting abroad.

Regarding the staffing of polling stations with unemployed graduates and public officials, Mr. Vassiliou said that 1.518 applications were submitted by Wednesday afternoon, of which 103 are for unemployed graduates.
