The special agro-meteorological bulletin based on the relevant model of the World Meteorological Organization, was issued for the month of January by the Department of Meteorology.

As he notes, January, the second month of winter, does not differ substantially from last December, both in terms of increasing cumulative rain and decreasing temperature.

During this month the atmosphere already has its winter characteristics, with the result that in January the frequency of baroque recessions in the region of Cyprus, in the Eastern Mediterranean is significantly increased compared to previous months.

As noted, January is expected to be warmer than normal by 1 ° C to 2 ° C, mainly in coastal areas. The expected amount of rain is disappointing for the month as it will range below normal, around 50% to 75% of normal. The whole region of the Eastern Mediterranean, the Balkans and much of Asia Minor, as well as the Near and Middle East, has similar dry characteristics.

Preliminary December meteorological data

From the initial data, as recorded by the Meteorological Department, it appears that in December the average temperatures recorded were close to or even slightly above normal.

Many extreme temperature values, both maximum and minimum (with a deviation of more than 4 ° C from normal) were observed at most reference stations. Indicative is the maximum temperature in Prodromos which was 17.2 ° C with the normal being 8.3 ° C and the maximum temperature in Polis Chrysochous which was 25 ° C with the normal being 18 ° C.

Regarding the minimum temperatures, the minimum temperature in Paphos is indicative which was 17.2 ° C with the normal being 10 ° C and the minimum temperature in Larnaca which was 17.9 ° C with the normal being 9.2 ° C.

Regarding the cumulative rain, it seems that December recorded cumulative rain well above normal.

As can be seen from the distribution map of the preliminary cumulative rain for December, the average surface distribution reached 162.4mm or 173% of normal. Local rains and thunderstorms occurred on December 1-2, 5-8, 13-23 and December 26-31.
