Vaccination is an achievement that should be maintained and strengthened, the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

On the occasion of the European Vaccination Week April 24-30, which has as its central theme "Vaccination, Long Life for All", the Ministry emphasizes that any reduction in the vaccination coverage of the population may bring to the fore forgotten diseases or even new epidemics.

It is reported that the Ministry of Health and its services have undertaken over time the uninterrupted availability of the necessary vaccines for the population, as well as the continuous effort to inform and raise awareness about their value.

An important role in this effort, it is pointed out, is the National Vaccination Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Health, which regularly updates the National Vaccination Program, based on the revised immunological, epidemiological and social data of the Center of Cyprus, in the recommendations of the Center Control and Prevention and the WHO, as well as other National Vaccination programs of European countries.

The Ministry notes that the pandemic that has struck humanity in the last two years has demonstrated the catalytic value of vaccinations in the effort to manage and control the global health crisis and has undoubtedly proved the value of vaccinations as a measure to prevent, create antibody barriers, reduce and targeted use of financial resources.

It is emphasized that the discovery of vaccines is one of the most important achievements of modern medical science.

As mentioned, the implementation of universal vaccination programs has resulted in the reduction or even elimination of diseases, which were considered deadly to humans.

Infectious diseases such as smallpox are now a thing of the past, while in other potentially deadly infectious diseases (tetanus, polio, meningitis, etc.) effective prevention and control has been achieved. Finally, there are vaccines to treat the human papillomavirus, which predisposes to the development of cancer affecting quality of life as well as survival.

The common goal of all agencies, it is pointed out, is through vaccinations to keep diseases away, thus aiming at health and longevity for all.

The Ministry of Health states that it is in constant cooperation with the Scientific Societies and the Pediatric Society of Cyprus and is vigilant in order to maintain / strengthen the vaccination coverage of the entire population.
