A few words about the life of Stelios Koiliaris

Stelios Koiliaris was born in 1951 in Nicosia. He studied economics at the University of Athens. He continued with postgraduate studies at the University of Essex and holds the M.A. degrees. and Ph.D..

For about 10 years he worked at the Ministry of Finance. He resigned in 1989 to work as a financial director in the private sector. Before taking on the duties of minister, he was general director of finance and administration at the Louis group of companies.

On February 28, 1993, he was appointed Minister of Trade and Industry in the Government of Glaukos Clerides 1993. In 1994, during his tenure, the ministry was renamed the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Tourism and Stelios Koiliaris took over as Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism. He left his position on 27 April 1995 to work in the private sector.

In addition, he served as chairman or board member of semi-governmental organizations, public and private companies, as well as joint ventures with foreign companies abroad. From time to time he chaired or was a member of committees that dealt with various serious economic policy issues. He was also secretary of the Advisory Economic Committee and the Supreme Council of Economic Policy.
