Only two thousand eight hundred new voters have been registered in the electoral lists out of 40 thousand, said the head of the Election Service, Dimitris Dimitriou, on Tuesday.
The picture is similar in the polling stations abroad, he added.
Asked if he has had a positive effect on the advertising message that has been transmitted in recent days, Mr. Dimitriou said that the results will be visible by the deadline on December 18.
Traditionally, the Cypriots are at the last minute, he said characteristically, pointing out that an increase in interest is expected in the last ten days before the deadline.
Answering a question, Mr. Dimitriou said that each candidate for the presidential election can spend up to one million euros for his election campaign. Two months after the announcement of the election results, he added, he will have to submit a report on these expenses to the Election Service, which will be forwarded for audit to the Auditor General.
