The Famagusta District Court today issued an eight-day detention order against a 39-year-old man from Syria to facilitate police investigations into an investigated case of assisting a third country person for illegal entry into the Republic of Cyprus and assisting a third party .
According to the Police, around ten o'clock on Monday night, accompanied by a member of the Port and Maritime Police, a boat carrying 75 migrants arrived at a fishing shelter in Protaras.
Investigations revealed that they were 51 men, ten women and 14 children, three of whom were unaccompanied.
To facilitate the investigations, a 39-year-old man, who was riding in the boat, was arrested this morning with a court order and detained.
The immigrants were transferred to the Hospitality Center for Illegal Immigrants in Kofinou.
The detainee was brought before the Famagusta District Court today, which issued a detention order against him for eight days.
The case is being investigated by the Famagusta Police Department.
