The young people of the Famagusta district are invited to take up the baton in the protection of the water snake and the promotion of Lake Paralimni. A very interesting event is organized on Saturday, April 13 at 9:30 in the morning at the Sotiras Municipality Social Services Center (opposite the Sotliras Town Hall). Anyone interested in learning how they can get actively involved in water snake conservation will attend the event to cast their own stone.
The water snake is a completely harmless, endemic subspecies of our island. It is found in lakes, streams and rivers whose banks are home to rich vegetation. It is an excellent swimmer and uses algae in the water to hide and feeds on frogs, tadpoles and small fish. The residents of the province of Famagusta can have an active role in the protection of the species.
The event is organized by the HerpTrust Project with the support of the Cyprus Environment Foundation and the Sotiras Youth Center and is under the auspices of the Sotiras Municipality.
