Cyprus now has its own Higher Intellectual Foundation in the Sciences, Letters and Fine Arts. With the approval of a relevant bill by the Plenary Session of the Parliament, the establishment and operation of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts proceeds.
It is a strategically important decision that will contribute to the promotion of excellence, spiritual progress and the achievements of our country. Its objectives include, among other things, the international promotion of the work of Cypriot scientists, the promotion of excellence, the cooperation of the leading spiritual forces of Cyprus, the support of Education, the provision of scientifically valid opinion and advice to the State and the strengthening of the cooperation of the Universities, the Research Centers and the Industry of Cyprus.
Today's decision demonstrates in practice our interest and determination to address the crisis of principles and values in our country. We don't just dwell on words and theories, we move on.
We should also publicly express our gratitude to the members of the Founding Committee of the Academy, consisting of internationally renowned Cypriot scientists Loukas Christoforou, Christoforos Pissaridis, Kyriakos Nikolaou and Vasso Karagiorgis. The Four-member Committee, by decision of the Council of Ministers in June 2016, had voluntarily undertaken the preparation of a comprehensive study regarding the mission and activities of the Cyprus Academy, its form and status.
