"Providing psychological support to all groups of the population is an urgent need, especially in the period we are going through due to the coronavirus pandemic", states in an announcement the Member of Parliament for DISY Famagusta, George Karoullas.
"Social isolation, potential financial and family problems, time management, constant staying at home, fear, anxiety and insecurity about the pandemic create new conditions unprecedented for the entire population which may form a negative context for society.
It is time now for the rational intervention of experts through networks that can be built. I consider it necessary to reiterate the proposal I recently submitted to the Ministers of Health and Education for the design and implementation of a comprehensive program of psychological support to the population, with lines of communication and instructions for managing emotions and time, through public-private partnership.
Without a doubt, this help network should be staffed by specialist psychologists registered in the relevant register, as pointed out by the Center for Clinical Psychology. In other words, it is absolutely necessary that any effort of support or intervention comes from specialized centers or individuals who meet the criteria of the relevant legislation of the Republic of Cyprus.
Based on today's announcements, the state through the competent services must not only formulate such a plan but also to control the operation of assistance centers in terms of training and registration in the relevant register, and to include them in its own planning in order to qualitative construction of a rational effort.
Counseling and psychological support to our fellow citizens who find it difficult to manage the new reality, which creates upheavals in our daily lives and lifestyles is absolutely necessary. The only priority, beyond the need, is to control and organize the effort. "
