Plants in a home can provide beauty and oxygen, but keeping them alive is not an easy task.

To stay alive, factors like light, η position, the water, the soilThe flower pot - and of course, every plant is different, with different needs. However, if you find that one (or more) of your houseplants are starting to "die", there are some ways to understand why and save them:

Excessive watering

If the leaves of your plant have turned yellow, the soil is wet and you see fungi growing at the base, then water it too much. If your plant belongs to the cacti or succulents, put them in the sun that will dry it quickly. Stop watering it for about a week and then start again, depending on how much water you need. Plants like ferns need moisture for a while and when you see their soil dries, water them again immediately.

Little watering

If the leaves look down and fall, it means that you are not watering your plant as much as it should. The goal is to distribute the water evenly soil and let it dry completely before re-watering. Also, most indoor plants are tropical, so they need lukewarm water, not ice or too hot. Usually a plant needs about a quarter to a third of the volume of the pot.

More or less light

When sunlight passes through the window, it usually does not cause much damage to indoor plants. However, there are plants, such as ferns, that prefer less light and can burn if left in the sun for a long time. A sign that they are burning is the discolored leaves. Plants that need more light may try to expand to the light source or their leaves may begin to fall off. In general, most indoor plants need medium to sufficient light.

Amount of fertilizer

If you put a lot of fertilizer on your plant, then the edges of the leaves or the whole leaves may turn brown or black and then fall off completely, very quickly. Too little fertilizer means the plant will simply stop growing. Add exactly the fertilizer that the plant species needs, and not more.

Small flowerpot

Sometimes a plant may not grow because it is in a very small pot for its size. When you buy a plant in a plastic pot, you need an immediate transplant. The volume of the plant needs to be two thirds above the soil and one third below the soil. Also, the soil should be a few inches below where the pot starts, so that the water stays on the soil for a while before it is absorbed.

Moisture

Dry air can cause great damage to indoor plants. Your plants need to be away from radiators, stoves, air conditioners and vents. If you have a dehumidifier, then you can put them near. If not, you can spray them with water very often.

Some bugs look like tiny cotton balls. Some others have the usual form of bugs. If you notice that your plant has some kind of bugs on it, clean it with lukewarm water and wipe it so that you can remove as much as you can. Then spray it with an insecticide spray (look for the right one) and be careful not to spray it under the leaves or in their slits.

If your plant is brown or looks like it is dead, it probably tends to the latter. Some plants, such as the fig tree, may return, even if they appear to be dead. Give them plenty of light, some fertilizer and water when they are dry and can come back to life. The same can happen with plants such as lust and philodendron, if there is any stalk left.
