The PGA European Golf Tour - Cyprus Open 2020 golf tournament, which took place from October 29 to November 1, 2020, at the Aphrodite Hills Stadium in Paphos, was a complete success.

This big sporting event, of international scope, attracted to Cyprus many of the biggest names of professional golfers in the world. Specifically, 105 of the top players in the world rankings, from 27 different nationalities, came to our place.

The arrival of international media to cover the games was also important, a fact that contributed to the huge visibility of our island abroad. In particular, live broadcasts were made to a potential audience of 735 million in 47 countries. Among the Media, there is the presence of the well-known network Sky Sports, with more than 400 million subscribers.

Attracting tournaments of this scope, assists in the development of alternative forms of tourism on our island and is part of the National Tourism Strategy 2030, which the Ministry of Tourism implements, despite adversity, at an intensive pace.

Through the tournament, Cyprus was promoted as an important destination for attracting athletes who are involved in golf, but also who practice it as a sports activity for entertainment purposes (hobby). Like all alternative forms of tourism, golf contributes to the extension of the tourist season and the increase in per capita expenditure, areas in which the Ministry of Tourism places great emphasis.

Finally, it is worth noting that the excellent impressions left by Cyprus and the flattering comments it received from the organizers and participants, will be a significant comparative advantage in the efforts to attract similar tournaments in the future. Already, this year a second tournament will be held in Cyprus, from 5-8 / 11/20, where all the participants of the Cyprus Open will participate, with similar coverage abroad.
