Novak Djokovic and Simon Byles: top athletes in the world for 2018

Novak Djokovic was named Athlete of the Year and Simon Byles was named Athlete of the Year at a spectacular event in Monaco yesterday.

The Serbian tennis player made a great return to tennis as last January he was at No. 14 in the world rankings and in less than a year he returned to the top, winning the Australian Open. Simone Bales, the "golden" Rio Olympian and world gymnastics champion, was named top athlete of the year.

Team of the year became the World Champion in football National France. Chloe Kim (snowboarder) was named best athlete in xtreme sports and the award for best young athlete of the year was given to Naomi Osaka (tennis) from Japan, who won the Melbourne Open.

The exceptional achievement award was given to the world record holder in the marathon, Eliud Kipchoge (Kenya), while the top skier of all time, 35-year-old Lindsay Vaughn, who retired from active action in 2019 due to injury the prize of "well fight".

The longest-serving coach in Arsenal history, Arsene Wenger, was not absent from the Laureus Awards. The Alsatian coach, who after his removal from the bench of the "gunners" in June 2018 does not work in a team, was given the "Lifetime Achievement" award.
