In a significant percentage that exceeds 70%, the Cypriot fans agree with the application of the fan card. The percentage that states that it supports a team and will proceed with its issuance amounts to 57%, of those who went to the stadium at least once state that they will get the card 67%, and of those who did not go at all this year 43 %.
These data are demonstrated, among many other elements, by the research conducted by the University of Nicosia on "Cypriot football: Facts and Perceptions". The research was presented today at a conference at the University of Nicosia and was attended by 1200 people aged 15 and over from 8 to 30 June 2018.
Of the participants in the survey, 57% or 690 people support a team that plays in Cypriot football. In relation to the fan preferences of the respondents, of those who stated that they support a team, 29,6% declare themselves fans of APOEL, 27% of Omonia, 14,9% of Anorthosis, 9,5% of Apollon, and 8,8% of AEL.
Regarding the issuance of the card and the fan preferences of the participants in the survey, 71% of APOEL fans say they will get the card, 62% of Anorthosis fans, 57% of Apollon, 50% of AEL fans and Omonia 45%.
Also, of the participants who state that they support a team, 71% believe that the card will drastically reduce violence and incidents in stadiums, while only 26% believe the opposite.
In relation to their presence on the field, of those who declare themselves fans of a team, 41% have not gone to any match last year, 25% went to the field from 1 to 5 times, 11% from 6-10 times and 23% more than 10 times. Conversely, of those who did not go to the stadium, 24% said that violence on the pitch was the reason, 23% that they preferred to watch the matches on TV, 19% that they did not have time and 16% that they did not care so much. a lot of football.
Regarding the operation of the fan associations, based on those who answered that they support a team, 16% said that they only do good to their team, 49% that they do more good than bad, 25% that they do more harm than good and 10% that they only do harm. Now in terms of fan preferences, 70% of Anorthosis, 68% of APOELists, 69% of Apollonists, 59% of AELists and 48% of Omoniaites believe that the Fans Association of their team is good for their team .
Regarding the participation of Cypriot footballers in the teams, 58% of those who declare themselves fans of a team, consider that the minimum number that must play in the eleven is 5-6 Cypriots, 20% believe that they must play at least 3- 4, 4% that they should fight 1-2 while 16% believe that there should be no restrictions.
Finally, regarding the reliability of the championship, 95% of the fans believe that rigged matches are held in Cyprus.
