The provincial day of the schools of Famagusta with the theme "Famagusta - Constantia - Salamis: saints and monuments of the occupied city", which took place at the conference center of the Lyceum of Paralimni on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, was crowned with success.
The day was organized as part of the "Student Tours to the Religious and Cultural Paths of Cyprus" program and was attended by groups of students from the Gymnasiums, High Schools and Technical Schools of Famagusta.
The children presented topics such as:
"The Apostle Barnabas and the head of the Church of Cyprus" (Xenion High School),
"The tomb and the holy monastery of the Apostle Barnabas" (Paralimni High School),
"Saint Epiphanios and his basilica" (Kokkinohoria "Foti Pitta" High School),
"Ancient Salamis: History and preserved monuments" (High School of Peace and Freedom Deryneia - Sotira),
"Ammochostos Vasilefousa: The Gothic Church of Agios Nikolaos" (short film from Kokkinohoria "Panos Ioannou" High School),
"Educational institutions and associations of occupied Famagusta" (Paralimni High School)
The impressions were stolen by the talented children of TESEK Avgorou, who with the help of their teachers composed and sang a short "Poetic tour of the churches and monuments of occupied Famagusta".
The day ended with the speech of His Eminence Metropolitan of Constantia and Famagusta, Mr. Vassiliou, on the topic "Monastery of Apostle Barnabas - Salamina: Christian and Greek lung of Cyprus: 50 years of occupation". Panierotatos shared with the children interesting information resulting from recent findings of historical and archaeological research on the occupied city and its monuments, as well as touching incidents from his own journey as a young monk in the occupied monastery of Apostle Barnabas. The sponsor of the event was I.M. Konstantias - Famagusta. Greetings were addressed on behalf of the Most Blessed Archbishop of Cyprus by the Theophilus Bishop of Mesaoria, Mr. Gregory, President of the Office of Pilgrimage Tours of the Church of Cyprus, as well as by the coordinator of the Program, Dr. Eliana Hatziioannou, EME of Religion.
