The capital of Greece is being modernized, acquiring new “tools” in the service of the citizen. Today, the mayor George Kaminis, presented the road map of 2018 for digital Athens, focusing on the real needs of residents and aiming to provide better services, more effective solutions and more transparency to residents and visitors of Athens.

At the same time, the mayor of Athens presented the services that the citizen already has at his disposal and they improve his daily life:

· Electronic signature that is applied throughout the chain of municipal administration and allows the municipality to circulate 80% of the documents electronically, along with many documents of daily operation.

· Electronic payments (www.cityofathens.gr/khe/pliromes) that enable citizens to pay with one click all their obligations. Already in the first months of implementation of the new system, 20% of payments are made electronically with the aim that in 12 months this percentage has increased to 60%.

· Electronic registrations (www.cityofathens.gr/khe/aitiseis/idiotes) in kindergartens of the municipality that serve more than 6.000 citizens, shielding with reliability and transparency the selection process.

· "I care", the platform that connects all the medical and social structures of the Municipality of Athens and provides integrated services to beneficiaries. Through "I care" more than 70.000 of our fellow citizens have been served, receiving 20 different services. The platform was created with the exclusive donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the coordination of the "Athens Partnership".

· Electronic sports management platform that already counts 1.800 registered in the brand new Serafio of the Municipality of Athens. In the first half of 2018 it will be expanded to the 14 gyms of the municipality and will serve a total of about 12.000 athletes.

· Electronic parking (http://mycitypass.gr/) that allows users of the controlled parking system to locate their car and buy parking time electronically.

George Kaminis stated that more than 10.000 people will have access to digital knowledge through the programs of Innovathens, the Open Schools and the program created in collaboration with Microsoft in the new municipal structure "Lela Karagianni".

Also, in the context of the digital transformation, the services of the Municipality of Athens will acquire sufficient bandwidth to cover their current and future needs, while reducing telecommunications costs. More than 50% of municipal employees will have access to the internet at gigabit speeds, while the possibilities of broadband internet access for citizens in public buildings (eg schools) or open public spaces will be sufficient to offer high speeds in large numbers. users simultaneously. At the same time, the municipal authority encourages investments in Athens to further enhance wired and wireless broadband, with the goal of at least 30% of Athens residents being able to access speeds up to 50Mbps by the end of 2018.

In addition, the mayor of Athens spoke about two more important initiatives that lead even more coordinated to the effort of administrative modernization:

1. The appointment, for the first time in all of Greece, of the Chief Digital Officer of the Municipality of Athens, Mr. Konstantinos Hambidis, with responsibilities for the development of Athens' potential in digital technology.

2. The establishment of a Digital Council, in which the largest IT companies of the country and university institutions participate. The aim of the Digital Council is to strengthen the city with know-how and good practices so that the citizen can enjoy his city.

The presentation of the roadmap for digital Athens 2018 was also attended by Mrs. Catherine Oliver, head of the Media and Digital Strategy team of Bloomberg Associates. Mrs. Oliver spoke about the know-how shared with the Municipality of Athens during the creation of the road map as well as the global good practices that were adopted by the municipal authority of Athens. "The city that discovered democracy will reinvent it in the 21st century and set an example for other countries," she said. "This roadmap will improve the city's internet infrastructure so that more people can access it." It will also facilitate citizens' access to important services, offer people new skills and help transform Athens into a more sustainable city for its residents and more business-friendly. ”

It is important to mention that for the first time the municipality of Athens is proceeding with administrative modernization, utilizing its human resources and infrastructure to become a modern digital city. University institutions, research institutes, dozens of companies, are the core for the creation of new ideas that facilitate the citizen and new jobs in the context of digital integration.
