In consultation with the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, the requests of each Ministry or Deputy Ministry for the acquisition of information and digital systems will now be implemented, with the aim of choosing the solutions that will have the greatest benefit both from an economic and social point of view, as he stated today the competent Deputy Minister Philippos Hatzizacharias.

As the Deputy Minister mentioned, the Council of Ministers approved the relevant proposal, which states that each Ministry and Deputy Ministry should consult with the Deputy Ministry of Research, at least 15 days before submitting their requests.

"In this way, we will be given the opportunity to record the opinions, we will make recommendations, there will be a better distribution of human resources and in general there will be better coordination, organization and saving of financial resources", said Mr. Hatzizacharias in statements after the session of the Council of Ministers.

Responding to a related question, he explained that until today each Ministry and Deputy Ministry decided that it wanted to proceed with some information system, either each Ministry would go out separately to find out what is currently on the market and request the opinion or the information from the Department of Services and Informatics of the Deputy Ministry of Research at a later stage.

"In this way, we put everything in one order", added Mr. Hatzizacharias, noting that "now each colleague will have to come to us, at the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, he will give us his proposal, the his proposal and after studying it we will be able to suggest various solutions or even if there are other companies that have done a similar program or even if there are more economical solutions then there should not be a need for a Ministry or Deputy Ministry to goes out to tenders with various economic operators".

So, he continued, "the way we have full control over the government projects now, we will track them according to the priority, according to the socio-economic requirement because you realize that a digital or an information system is not only to implement it, but at the same time to see the socio-economic impact as well".

He cited as an example how many civil servants will not need to remain in their post to fill in forms, so these civil servants can be used in other services and will be more beneficial to the State and the State at large.

The Deputy Minister of Research noted that in his experience so far as Deputy Minister, as well as the services of the Deputy Ministry, they have seen requirements from various Ministries and Deputy Ministries for which the Deputy Ministry knew about information systems, which are parallel or similar.

"In this way we will give them the guideline that it must be done in this way, this economic operator must be taken into account", he added.

When asked if the Deputy Ministry will be able to respond to this workload, Mr. Hatzizacharias said that this had been taken into account before the relevant proposal was submitted to the Council of Ministers.

"With the existing human resources we have we will be able to cope with this proposal," he said.

Finally, in response to a question whether the recommendations of the Deputy Ministry are not binding, Mr. Hatjizacharia replied by saying that "we are a team".

"It does not mean something that one Minister will say must be done or that my position will be final. On the contrary, we will sit down to discuss with the ultimate aim and goal of bringing out the best information system that will benefit the State as a whole", he concluded.
