The freezer is the magic solution that goes by the name. Food storage. Very often we store food and snacks either to cook them later or to reheat a leftover food.

However, we need to know, at least for staple foods, how long they can withstand freezing. See below:

1. Meat

As for red meat, we should not keep it in our refrigerator for more than a day when it comes to minced meat or small pieces, and more than two or three days when it comes to steaks or other large pieces. If we want to freeze it, we must first wash it and dry it. So, we can keep it in the freezer for six months, if it is beef, and for one year if it is beef.

In sheep and goats, the small pieces are well kept in the freezer for three months, while the large ones can be kept for up to six months, while the pork can be kept in the freezer for four to six months.

2. Dairy

Foods that contain milk, eggs, cheese, butter or sour cream do not keep for more than two days in storage and a week in the freezer, since the dairy products "cut" in a short time after cooking.

3. Fish

In the freezer of our house can be stored up to three months. Those that do not have scales (such as kolios, bonito, mackerel, etc.) are not good to freeze, because their taste becomes even heavier and they lose their taste.

4. Cooked vegetables

Cooked vegetables are generally more perishable and do not last more than one to two days in storage or one to two weeks in the freezer. However, freezing is not so suitable for these foods, because they lose their organoleptic characteristics. The best solution for the vegetables (greens, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, carrots) that we want to keep in the fridge is to cook them boiled -without sauce-, because that way we can store them for more days.
