From today (7/10) the dialysis patients of the province of Famagusta will refrain from their treatment, protesting against the long-standing problems faced by the dialysis unit at the Famagusta hospital.
Among other things, according to ANT1, they demand the immediate replacement of the dialysis machines which, as the patients complain and the Director of the hospital confirms, are under-functioning.
"Our health is in danger every day, no one took us into account and that is why we are going out indefinitely tomorrow. we call the minister since OKYPY does not respond we call on the minister of health to take us into account before we have victims ", said the Patient Representative, George Kezos.
"A meeting was held with all stakeholders, the dialysis of the Famagusta General Hospital has been set to be included in the change of machines, which is estimated to be in November 2021, and the minister is interested and it is expected that our patients will be vindicated by the end of November", said the Director of Famagusta Hospital, Amalia Hatzigianni.
The patients also express strong dissatisfaction with the fact that nephrologists who are on duty at the hospital do not respond in times of crisis, as a result of which the patients are transferred to the General Hospital of Larnaca.
According to information from ANT1, actions are being taken to have a nurse on duty on a 24-hour basis in the dialysis department, to reduce the waiting time and to treat the patients in time.
