Galanos Alexis Galanos, Nea Famagusta, Press Conference

The mayor of Famagusta, Alexis Galanos, described as a backstab at the President of the Republic and as a blast in the air of any hope for reconciliation between the two communities, the announcement of the so-called "Foreign Minister" of the occupied Mr. Varosion.

Mr. Galanos, in a press conference he gave in view of tomorrow's event outside the Presidential Palace, stated that "the main message is that we want our world, the world of Famagusta, the refugees and the wronged and the suffering and those who want a solution is to find with us at the Presidential Palace around 18:00 to shout loudly that we want to go home based on resolutions 550 and 789 ".

"Unfortunately, the Turkish side, together with Mr. Ozersay, violated and derailed the Famagusta affair," he noted.
Mr. Galanos then recalled Ozersay's responsibilities and the intervention he had made from time to time during the Biden era when a joint commission for Famagusta would be set up.

The ultimate goal of the actions and decisions of the occupying regime is the settlement of Famagusta, he said. To add that it introduces a non-existent issue, that of Evkaf that immediately, as Mr. Galanos said, 70% does not belong to the legal residents but to Evkaf.

The mayor of Famagusta described what has been happening lately as a psychological war and as the promotion of plan B by Turkey. "The EEZ is being used to promote them," he noted.

At the same time, he stated that tomorrow, Friday (28/6), a memorandum will be delivered to the President of the Republic.
"It is time for a step to the SA for the involvement of the General Assembly to implement the decisions and resolutions 550 and 789", Mr. Galanos underlined.

It is necessary to take action in both the UN and the EU, he underlined while at the same time revealing that the Municipality of Famagusta unanimously decided to proceed with actions in embassies, parties and also to Mrs. Spehar.

Mr. Galanos stated that he had a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and in the framework of the cooperation "we will do what is humanly possible to start talks on the Cyprus issue again", he noted.

"We must make every effort to start talks to secure the future of our children," he said.
Addressing Mr. Ozersay, Mr. Galanos noted that we all suffered before 74 and after, but we must overcome the vendettas for a peaceful Cyprus for the future of our children.
"We expect from President Anastasiadis whom we support to react dynamically", he underlined.

In a relevant question, Mr. Galanos stated that we expect Mr. Akindzi to be clearer regarding the issue of Varosia, as well as the Turkish Cypriots who want a solution to the Cyprus problem.

"Our main concern is to bring back the issue of Famagusta," he stressed elsewhere.

Asked about what is being heard from the occupiers about the opening of Famagusta in exchange for recognition of the illegal airport of Tympos, Mr. Galanos referred to an earlier proposal. In this regard, however, Mr. Galanos threw the ball of decisions to the government and President Anastasiadis.

In conclusion, the mayor of Famagusta, characterized Famagusta as a key for the course of the Cyprus issue, addressing a personal appeal for the unity of all Greeks and the drawing of a common line.
