The member of the Committee, Sotos Ktoris stated that the works in ancient Salamis lasted 8 months, was done with the bi-communal cooperation of conservators and archaeologists and the mosaics, all the archeological findings and the basilicas of Agios Epifanios and Kampanopetra were preserved. "They are monuments of exceptional importance, which testify to the splendor of the ancient city of Constantia and especially its position as the most important Cypriot city of the pre-Byzantine period. It is a project of emblematic importance, which was made possible through the cooperation of Greek and Turkish conservators and archaeologists ".
Mr. Ktoris said that there is no doubt that this is one of the most important projects done by the bi-communal Technical Committee, as they testify to the history of the island and the rich cultural heritage of our country.
In progress and is expected to be completed in the next period, he continued, is the church of Agios Georgios in Genera, the church of Agios Georgios in Vatili, the church of Agia Marina and the Virgin of the Bank in Acheritou, the church of the Prophet Elijah in Pillars of Famagusta, of Zouhouri tekke in Larnaca, the church of Agios Synesios in Radical, the church of Panagia Kyra in Komi Kepir.
The Technical Committee has already approved bids, he said, for the following projects: its mosque Orountas and ottoman baths in Larnaca. Mr. Ktoris stated that the Committee for Cultural Heritage is planning works in the archeological sites of Solos and Vouni (palace complex) while urgent works are expected to be done in a number of churches and mosques whose condition is at a critical point, in order to to prevent them from collapsing or further deteriorating.
He continued, studies are in progress for several projects of the Commission, which are implemented through bi-communal cooperation of scholars and concern the mosque in Terra, Avdimou and Alectora, Agios Sergios and Bacchus in Neta of Karpasia, Agia Paraskevi in Famagusta , Agios Ioannis in Argaki, Agios Georgios in Flamoudi, Agios Georgios in Limnia, Agios Ilias in Famagusta, the Diamond Tower in the Venetian walls of Famagusta.
