Galanos: "Famagusta is not an oil well or an ark" (VIDEO)

The Mayor of Famagusta, Alexis Galanos, harshly criticized the Government and the President of the Republic for their handling of the issue of Famagusta this morning.

Alexis Galanos was this morning at the Cultural Center of occupied Famagusta together with municipal councilors to symbolically place the "return tree" in front of the Cultural Center to look at occupied Famagusta.

The tree, which symbolically did not bear ornaments, was placed as a reminder that the people of Famagusta also have the right to decorate trees in their city.

In his subsequent statements, the Mayor of occupied Famagusta Alexis Galanos stated that the tree is small but the tree in the soul of the people of Famagusta to return to their city is very large.

"We see, as he said, our city so clean and beautiful this morning, Christmas days and we wish a Merry Christmas to our fellow citizens and to all our people in Cyprus."

At the same time, he criticized the Government and President Anastasiadis for their handling of the Famagusta issue. Features mentioned:

"On this occasion, however, we can only express a great bitterness and frustration for the way the government handles the issue of Famagusta. We have stood close to the government all these years, loyal citizens and we have followed the line that followed. However, we see that the issue of Famagusta is systematically degraded and that Famagusta, which is an international obligation of Turkey but also an obligation of our government, is degraded to another measure of confidence building and is not even discussed in the various CEEs, at a time when the Turkish side to slowly inhabit the beaches of Agios Memnon and to go further down.

We want to say to our President that what is happening in Famagusta and will happen in the future, with the messages that are allowed to escape, are not natural phenomena. They are not matters of irony, they are matters of a great reality to the detriment of Famagusta. Famagusta is a historic city, the largest refugee city by far, it is certainly not an oil well but it is something much more. And it certainly is not Arkaji.

We want the President to raise these days the issue of Famagusta in the Security Council, to Mrs. Lut also to Mr. Guterres because the issue of Famagusta is a separate negotiation, which should have existed because of the resolutions and decisions of the United Nations.

This negotiation has been lingering for years now and unfortunately there is a smokescreen on the Famagusta of Cyprus. Anything but Famagusta of the Cyprus problem, the projection of Famagusta gives the drama of Cyprus in all its dimensions and it is the projection of Famagusta that will create serious pressures regarding the entire Cypriot

That is why we ask the President to give more weight to the issue of Famagusta but also to use very capable people of Famagusta, young people, middle-aged people, distinguished people close to him to help him in the various Committees that must finally function.

With these words, I wish again this year to be the year that will finally bring us closer to our city and close to the solution of the Cyprus problem in a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation and in a peaceful Cyprus where we and the children will live safely. us."
