The UN position on Famagusta remains the same and is guided by the relevant Security Council Resolutions, according to a letter from UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to President Nikos Anastasiadis, while expressing the UN readiness to contribute to the implementation of any measures consistent with the Security Council Resolutions.
At the same time, in the letter, the Secretary General expresses a desire to complete the terms of reference.
According to a written statement by the Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromos, the UN Secretary General addressed a letter to President Anastasiadis responding to relevant letters from the President dated 14 and 26 June, as well as 22 July 2019.
"In his letter, the Secretary-General states that the United Nations position on Famagusta remains the same and is guided by the relevant Security Council Resolutions. At the same time, it states that the UN "They are ready to contribute to the implementation of any measures that are in line with the Decisions of the Security Council", says Mr. Prodromou.
At the same time, he appreciates the suggestion of convening an informal conference under the auspices of the UN, while welcoming the readiness of the President of the Republic to work for the settlement of the Cyprus problem and referring in particular to the "desire to complete the terms of reference, the which can be the consensus starting point "for the resumption of negotiations", the Government Spokesman added.
