The effort of OKYPY to serve the dialysis patients of the free province of Famagusta is continuous, the spokesman of the Organization, Charalambos Charilaou, told KYPE, noting that where necessary, machinery is replaced.

Mr. Charilaou was invited by KYPE to comment on a letter he sent on September 20 to the Ministry of Health, to the Executive Director of OKYPY and to the Scientific Director of Famagusta Hospital, the President of Famagusta Nephropaths used by dialysis patients.

The spokesperson of OKYPY stated that "the dialysis machines that exist in the General Hospital of Famagusta are the same as those that exist in the other Hospitals of Cyprus. The specific machines are governed by a maintenance contract and are maintained while there are back-up machines in case any machine suffers any damage, it can be replaced, so that the dialysis patients can continue their treatment ".

He added that "the management of the Famagusta General Hospital has been asked to report whether there are frequent problems or not and in case there are machines that may need replacement, this will be done."

Mr. Charilaou was asked to comment on a part of the letter sent by Mr. Kezos regarding the information made by the representative of the machinery company in the Administration of the Famagusta Hospital, according to which "the operation deadline of the central machinery, which supplies all the machines, even giving in writing to the Management that it does not bear any responsibility for anything that happens ".

If, said the OKYPY spokesman, "the Reverse Osmosis System (RO System) needs replacement then it will be done, but the experts will tell us that. Our effort is continuous and that is why there are maintenance contracts in medical equipment ". He explained that "where and where corrective actions are required, where and where replacement is required, replacement should take place".

It is noted that in the letter of Mr. Kezo, it is mentioned that "at this moment, lives are in danger of being lost every day. "The dialysis machines are malfunctioning, while this month they have stopped three times while they were operating on a hemodialysis patient, endangering his health".

He adds that "these machines are second-hand devices that were transported to the Famagusta General Hospital by the Hemodialysis Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital due to their replacement with new ones, while today the specific machines do not perform the treatment properly. The representative of the machinery company informed the Administration of the Famagusta Hospital that the deadline for the operation of the central machine, which supplies all the machines, has expired, giving the Management in writing that it is not responsible for anything that happens ".

Mr. Kezos in his letter also states that "everything that happens in the Hemodialysis Unit, opposes the inalienable rights of hemodialysis patients who are violated", while calling on the recipients of the letter to understand their pain and the "Golgotha" they experience for weeks.

Finally, the President of the Famagusta Kidney Diseases informs that in case within ten days there is no response to his letter then "we will refuse our treatment for as many days as needed".
