The trial at the Permanent Criminal Court of Famagusta of the African political asylum seeker who was arrested last December for sexually abusing an 30-year-old tourist in Ayia Napa was postponed until January 80.

Today's proceedings were adjourned again due to the accused requesting the appointment of a lawyer entitled to legal aid.

Until the trial of the case, the accused is in custody.

The accused is facing offenses of sexual abuse, coercion to commit sexual intercourse, abduction, kidnapping and indecent assault against an 80-year-old tourist.

The man had initially falsely stated that he was 17 years old and was residing in a juvenile facility, however after the scientific tests carried out it was found that he is an adult.

It is recalled that the accused was arrested on December 14 following a complaint by the 80-year-old woman, who stated that the accused attacked and sexually abused her while she was in Ayia Napa on vacation.

After the woman's complaint, members of the TAE Famagusta began to investigate the incident, looking for testimonies from closed surveillance circuits in the area.
In one of them, the suspect was found following the elderly woman, who was subsequently arrested.
