The President of DISY Averof Neophytou stated today that we must build a Cyprus of quality, since quality is what will upgrade the income of the state and the Gross National Product, but will also increase the country's per capita income.

In his statements after a visit to the Underwater Museum of Sculpture in Ayia Napa, Mr. Neophytou said that "every day I am with the people, the Mayors and the private sector in general, I feel more optimistic about the course of our country."

The President of DISY referred to statements he made a few weeks ago after a meeting he had with the Governor of the Central Bank, that "the growth of 2021 will not only reach but also possibly exceed the recession of 2020".

"With the image I have of Cyprus and how tourism is going in Cyprus, I am sure that the growth rates of the Cypriot economy for the whole of 2021 will exceed the rate of the 2020 recession," he said.

After saying that "we can make the best Cyprus", he expressed satisfaction for his visit to Ayia Napa today and congratulated the Mayor and his associates. "I congratulate the government of Nikos Anastasiadis and the competent Ministers because without their support we would not see today, in this dynamic Municipality, projects of the order of 14 million euros," he added.

It should be mentioned "to build a Cyprus of quality, since quality is what will upgrade the income of the state and the Gross National Product, but will also increase the country's per capita income".

"When every job we do, whether it's a park, infrastructure, a hotel or a restaurant, the quality is discernible, you have happy visitors, satisfied businessmen because they have more income and happy employees because they can get more (money)," he added.

This was said by Averof Neophytou "it is our goal as a Democratic Alarm, to build tomorrow's Cyprus in quality".

At the same time, he described as "positive, substantial and clear in general and in particular" the message sent yesterday by the House of Representatives with the vote on laws of the three bills that extend the term of the existing municipal and community councils and school board members until May. of 2024 and the elections for the new local authorities, on the same day as the elections for the members of the European Parliament.

The President of DISY also noted that "all the political parties in Parliament, and the 7 parties, are in favor and committed to vote for the reform of Local Government by the end of November at the latest."

He added that the second equally important reform for him is "that we reduce the electoral processes that cost", clarifying that he does not mean the monetary cost of the elections. These, he said, "I do not take into account", but the costs that are created in a prolonged election period in Cyprus, which unfortunately every politician or party is forced to make decisions that are not so beneficial for the country, but beneficial for the party votes ".

So he continued "the reduction of electoral processes is a great benefit for society."

At the same time, Mr. Neophytou noted, "the way is open for the modernization of Cyprus, to proceed with the package of major reforms, reforms in the judiciary, to be able to make decisions as soon as possible, but also the reforms in the public sector, to have a a public service that serves and serves the citizens and not a public service that due to the entanglements - and it is not the responsibility of the public officials - to suffer and hinder the business activity but also to make the life of the ordinary citizen lifeless ".

On his part, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Christos Zannettou, thanked the President of DISY for his interest in learning about tourism, projects and developments in the Municipality.

"Such meetings and visits through cooperation discuss our various problems, our various requirements and at the same time we face the appropriate support we need to proceed with the implementation of the various projects," he said.

He added that the issues of tourism were also discussed with Mr. Neophytou and noted that "the tourism industry in Ayia Napa this year was relatively good, as it had nothing to do, compared to 2020, while in 2019 we are on average of 65% ". At the moment, he said, "all the hotels operate with a fullness of 55-60% and are even more supported on weekends by domestic tourism".
